Every Wednesday a new wave of comics fills the shelves of your local store. No doubt, it’s exciting but it can be extremely overwhelming as well, especially if you’re a fan who’s just wading into the comic book waters. It is with this thinking that we have created this weekly feature to spotlight some just released first issues that are great starting points for new and classic series.

This unique fantasy tale takes readers to a world where luck is a quantifiable thing, people are either born with or not. If you’re not, you're deemed an “Unfortunate.” But when a massive threat faces the planet, only “The Unfortunates” can save the day. This is a book for fans of X-Men or teen superhero stories like Runaways and Teen Titans.

This book continues on the mysterious espionage tone that Bendis has built in his Event: Leviathan series. This new book finds Lois Lane recruiting the best detective minds of DC Universe including Green Arrow, The Question, Manhunter, and Steve Trevor to take on a mysterious organization that has infiltrated the highest corridors of power. Checkmate brings spycraft and espionage to a superhero story.

A twisted new book from the creators of the absolutely bizarre series Plastic.
