Milestone Media Is Back And It’s Ready To Rock and Shock!

November 10, 2021

Well, would ya look at that! After a whole 20 years, Milestone Comics is coming back with a massive roll out of new intriguing series. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Milestone Comics was a household name in the early 1990s. You couldn’t walk into a comic-book shop without seeing a super rad Static Shock poster somewhere in the building. Static Shock you ask? Yeah! That is Milestone comics. Well… sort of. Okay let's get into the business side of things for a second. All of the Milestone series were published and distributed by DC Comics, including our favorite smooth talking, trash can riding hero: Static Shock. It's been two decades since they created the last Milestone series, and just last summer, CBS News helped break the big story that the company is coming back. Oh… and not just coming back… They are coming back with the original co-founders Denys Cowan and Derek Dingle. They are bringing not just new series to the stage but also a Milestone Returns Infinite Edition!

An Overview of Milestone Media

So why are people so hyped on Milestone Comics? Milestone is a comic book company that is mostly made up of African-American artists and writers that was founded in 1993. The founders include Dwayne McDuffie, Michael Davis, Denys Cowan, and Derek T. Dingle. Some popular Milestone characters are Static, Rocket, Icon, and Duo.

The last Milestone Comics series was released in 1997, and since then, the company had made no news of a comeback until last summer when Denys Cowan broke the news on CBS. And the crowd went wild!

Back in the day Milestone Media had a contract with DC Comics to distribute the Milestone Comic series; however, according to an outlet, DC Comics was not very comfortable with the advancing storylines and artworks of Milestone Comics, and this broke the cooperation between both franchises. However, Milestone Media still seems to be more focused on combating racism and homophobia with its incredible writing and introspective storylines.

The Comeback of Milestone Comics

In February 2021, Milestone Media released a "digital preview" of its upcoming series titled "Milestone Returns: Infinite Edition #0." The preview shows different cuts and doubles down on anti-police brutality. On May 25, 2021, the physical version of Milestone Returned and the Infinite Edition #0 was released.

Reginald Hudlin, a partner and writer for Milestone Media, confirmed that this is just the start and that the company has a whole new world to show off to its fans and followers. If you are asking Reginald Hudlin, it doesn’t sound like it will be too long before we will be seeing Milestone Comic’s return to TV and Film. Milestone has even hinted at trading cards, toys and other special collectibles that will shortly follow suit.

Going back to 2020, Michael B. Jordan had announced that he'd be partnering with Reginald Hudlin to produce a Warner Bros. film based on a popular Milestone comic character, Static or Static Shock to those of us who grew up watching the cartoons!

Real quick… Can we just take the time and appreciate that last little pile of words? Michael B. Jordan… who is already a legend in the pop-culture universe, wants to make a Static Shock live action thing-a-ma-bob. WHAT?!?!?! I don’t know about you but my friends and I spent hours upon days talking about how cool a live action Static Shock movie or TV show would be! Okay back to Milestone:

Reginald Hudlin admitted that the comic industry has revolutionized over the years; hence, Milestone Media would have a long way to go to get back into the spotlight.

Furthermore, Hudlin explains how Milestone Media looks to come back to the forefront of comics, and I don’t think it's going to be very difficult.

Here is a direct quote from the legend himself:

"Blackness is a constantly evolving and expanding term. There was a time when almost all Black Americans had a similar set of experiences — that's not been true for generations now. So when you go by exploring every aspect, thankfully, that's a lifetime mission."

Well-freakin said my man, and if by some magical chance you end up reading this, hear me out. We are all still here, your comics and stories helped guide our lives, and to those who haven’t yet stumbled upon the magic that is Milestone mastery… I envy you. You are in for a treat.

Summary

Milestone Comics is coming back, and it sounds like they have enough radness to put a shock to our systems! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I had to throw one last Static plug in there somewhere. If you are as excited as I am or if you just want to check this fantastic world out for the first time, Milestone Returns: Infinite Edition #0 is out, and you can ask about it wherever comic books are sold. Hopefully, we will be seeing more news about movies like the old Hardware, Icon, Blood Syndicate, and Static titles very soon! So in closing, I would like to leave with this… Mr. Hudlin, you and your team have nothing to be nervous about my dear friend, because the fans, myself included, have been waiting for this moment a long time.

Welcome back legends!
