What is it?

Dungeon Alchemist is an AI-powered mapmaking tool for both players and dungeon masters. Simply pick a theme, start drawing, and Dungeon Alchemist creates high-quality maps you can print, share, or use in your favorite Virtual Tabletop Application.

“Dungeon Alchemist was created by Wim De Hert and Karel Crombecq, both longtime roleplayers. This project came from a personal need for an easy-to-use, convenient tool for making dungeon maps. Both working full time jobs, we just don’t have the time to design each map in excruciating detail, but we still want cool-looking tailor-made encounters for our campaigns.”

Why It’s Cool:

It works with Roll20, a popular D&D/Pathfinder virtual space.

Why Captain Chris Backed This:

Roll20 is excruciating when it comes to drawing maps. Loading in premade maps can be awkward and time consuming as they don’t look exactly like what you want. Before this program I had to photoshop, clip, stretch, and modify my maps and it took hours to get them close to what I want, and I still wasn’t pleased with it.

This program allows you to paint assets, add lighting, and it is presented in a 3D aspect that you create. The AI populates rooms with assets you tell it to help create so you can set it to “Spaceship” and you can paint with that on a grid to make your dungeon the exact size you want. You can also print them out to use with friends.

The stretch goals have already been met and for just 30 Euros you can get all the extra goodies and a lifetime subscription to use the software as an app. Finally, my days of endlessly trying to find maps can end; I can make whatever I can imagine, like a pirate themed nursing home!
